About the Journal

The Revista de Direito da Amazônia - RDA (Amazon Law Journal), ISSN 2675-8660 (electronic version), is curated, developed, and maintained by the Escola Superior da Magistratura do Amazonas - ESMAM (Superior School of the Judiciary of Amazonas), a department of the Tribunal de Justiça do Estado do Amazonas - TJAM (Court of Justice of the State of Amazonas). Its primary goal is to serve as an effective channel for the dissemination of legal information and knowledge through the publication of academic, scientific, and technical papers. It provides a platform for judges, professors, guest speakers, and students from the school (graduates), as well as other legal professionals, acting as a vital space for intellectual and scientific production.

The journal was conceived by judge Flávio Humberto Pascarelli Lopes during his 2018–2020 administration, with the intent of broadening academic debate within the legal community. "It is in academia that professionals can refine their understanding of the foundations of Law. No case or strategy can thrive without knowledge. With the Revista de Direito da Amazônia, we aim to contribute to a broader perspective of legal phenomena and current topics. We seek not only to offer observations or establish comparisons between several themes but, above all, to encourage reflection. This science requires us to daily scrutinize the reasons provided to promote the application of Law and the effective exercise of the ideal of Justice," the Justice stated.

Launched on March 4, 2020, by the ESMAM board— judges Flávio Pascarelli and Jomar Ricardo Saunders Fernandes (Director and Sub-director, respectively)—the journal is exclusively digital and published semi-annually. It is open to legal practitioners and professionals from other fields since their articles maintain a legal focus. Issues are published in June and November, covering the first and second semesters of the year, respectively.

The RDA is situated within the field of Applied Social Sciences with an emphasis on Law, focusing on the following themes: Philosophy and General Theory of Fundamental Rights; Hermeneutics, Constitutional Jurisdiction, and Citizenship; Law, Society, and Culture; Invisible Groups and Human Rights; Social Fundamental Rights; Violence, Penal Systems, and Democracy; State, Constitutional Democracy, Citizenship, and Fundamental Rights; Fundamental Labor Rights and the Rule of Law; Technology and the Law.

Scientific articles selected for publication must be ORIGINAL, following the standards of the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT) and the current Acordo Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa. Selection for the Amazon Law Journal is conducted through a Double-Blind Peer Review system, utilizing an Editorial Advisory Board (Reviewers) to evaluate submissions, except in the case of special editions.

The journal follows an Open Access Policy to ensure that knowledge is widely and freely available to everyone. In response to concerns regarding ethics, quality, and the integrity of published works, the journal has adopted the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines. Finally, the RDA employs digital preservation policies to guarantee long-term access to its content. Published articles are automatically preserved via the PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN), based on the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, ensuring the ongoing integrity and availability of its publications.
